One Big Smoky Mountain Family by Bruce Price

Bruce has two photographs of school children from the Revilo area with names of people who originally came from the Smokey Mountain counties of Cocke and Sevier in Tennessee. Some of the names were Price, Messer, McGaha, Baxter, Ramsey, Schultz, Lindsey, Brown, and Barnes.

With the opening of the mines some of the earliest businesses were Lendrum & Finch, Bryan & Echold, R. F. Porch Lumber Manufacturing Co., Atybaugh & Berry Foundry and Shingle Mill, Forsythe Brothers Lumber Co., Dodson & Son Rock Quarry, W.R.J. Hardwick Grocery House, W.W. Reynolds Saloon, and J.T. Crews Saloon.

Minutes to Lawrence County Genealogical Society Board Meeting, Saturday, March 17, 2018 by Doyce Shaddix

The meeting was called to order by Lila Gobbell. The minutes were read and accepted. The treasurer's report was read and accepted. There was no old business. New Business: A correction as to the location of the quarterly meeting for December which will be held at the First Methodist Church on Waterloo Street instead of the Library. Motion to adjourn and passed.

Minutes to Lawrence County Genealogical Society Meeting, Saturday, March 17, 2018 by Doyce Shaddix

The meeting was called to order by President Wallace Palmore. The minutes were read and accepted. The treasurer's report was read and accepted. Old Business: 74 copies of the Pictorial History Book are left. New Business: Kathy Niedergeses made an urgent request for anyone to write and submit articles for the journal and Wallace Palmore stated he is abstracting Deed Book I now that he is through with the 1890 tax list.

An article published in the Democrat-Union, written by Charlie Crawford, about a devoted spotted terrier who mourns the lose his master when he realizes his master, crippled Joe Parkes, who passed away one night in his sleep, will never come down the steps again.

An article in the Democrat-Union dated May 2, 1947 states that a new modern drive-in restaurant located four blocks east of town named the Merry-Go-Round is now open.

This is the 21st installment in a series that began in Vol 16 #4, Summer 2013, regarding fires, fire fighting equipment and firemen of Lawrence County. Sources include local newspapers, minutes of the City of Lawrenceburg, various community histories, Our Hometown: Lawrenceburg, TN, etc. and are given with each entry. The author asks the readers to submit any information regarding fires not listed to the Lawrence County Archives. See the article for details on the location, date, etc. of each fire listed. Mystery Families and Photographs

Four pictures make up this collection: 1) A picture of a Smokey Mountain family, possibly of a Shults family; 2) Two men and two women in suits and ties; 3) A sweet baby; 4) A picture of a house thought to be in the Appleton area.

Odds And Ends Submitted by Kathy Niedergeses

Two articles from the Lawrence Democrat dated June 29, 1894: 1) Tells about the many beautiful homes that have been erected and more are still being built. 2) Talks about the Mexican War Monument erected for such a great cause, and how it is a shame and disgrace that the monument is being allowed to crumble and fall to the ground because of neglect. Three articles from the Lawrence Democrat dated April 26, 1895: 1) At an early date, two offices on the first floor of the courthouse not being used will be taken out and a County Court fitted in. 2) A plea for people to donate money to place a fence around the City Cemetery. 3) A colony of poor people from the tenement districts of large cities in Indiana is being formed by Thurman I. Stewart and that M. M. Finney, a real estate man from this area, proposes to sell them 1,500 acres at cost.
