Pittsburg Landing, Tn. at the battle of Shiloh while on Provost Guard duty John
took sick and died May 9, 1862 of typhoid fever at the Camp Hospital. It has
been passed down through the years in the family that James Crawford has behind
with father was with him at his death. And James told of burying John and placing a stone so
after the war he could come back and take his father's body back home to Ohio.
When the army assigned soldiers to find and bury all the bodies in the Shiloh

at Shiloh National Cemetery. Sophia Brian made application for Widow's Pension
