Real Daughter of Union Civil War Soldier

Naomi B. Jaggars Moore

 

 

Naomi B. Jaggars was born November 18, 1919 in Morgan County, Alabama to James Willis Jaggars and Dovie Jane Powell Jaggars. James Willis Jaggars was born May 14, 1845 in Morgan County, Alabama to Thomas Jaggers and Martha Vest Jaggars. He married Mary Jane Riggs December 17, 1867. After Mary Jane died James W. then married Dovie Jane Powell April 9, 1913 in Morgan County, Alabama. Dovie was the daughter of George Washington Powell and Martha E. Brown (who's father was in the 1st Alabama Union Cavalry also.) James W. was 67 years old and Dovie was 22 years old at the time of their marriage. Their first child, James Willis III was born and died May 9, 1915 and he is buried at Salem Cemetery in Morgan County. Naomi was born in 1919. James W. was a Methodist Minister. He died February 22, 1923 in Morgan County and is buried Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Naomi married Asberry Moore born February 28, 1909 Morgan County, Alabama. They were married May 25, 1935 in Morgan County, Alabama. They had four children: Edward Franklin born November 23, 1936; John Willis born July 4, 1939; Arthur Benton born April 4, 1942 and Margie Ann born March 3, 1944 in Morgan County, Alabama. Asberry died October 6, 1982 and is buried Creek Creek Cemetery in Morgan County. Naomi is now living at Sunbrigde  Care center in Decatur, Alabama. She joined Major Belle Reynolds, Tennessee Tent #4 (Detached) November 15, 2004.

A reporter and photographer from the Decatur Daily newspaper met and interviewed Naomi, her two remaining children, grandson, son-in-law, and several of the members of TN Tent #4. After the articles was in the Decatur Daily the Birmingham Post Herald and Birmingham News picked up the article from the Associated Press and both ran the article. Tent #4 notified the Governor of Alabama and the White House of Our Real Daughter and her 85th birthday. We were asked to fax info about Naomi and her father to the White House. Then for Naomi's birthday President George W. Bush and wife Laura Bush, and the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, sent her Congratulations and Best Wishes. What a Honor!
