Diary of Blanche Gallaher Olive

transcribed by Donna Ramsey

introduction by Kathy Niedergeses

Several years ago, three notebooks that were the diaries of Mrs. Olive were loaned to the archives so they could be transcribed by Donna and the information made available to the public. Most personal items and gossip were not included when transcribed; only the births, deaths and marriages that she had recorded. On many of these, she not only gave their date of death, but included where they were buried, parents names, cause of death, and a comment on the family, death or funeral. Some of the entries also list the birth date. Many of these names and dates may be inscribed on tombstones, but the comments are invaluable to researchers and can not be found in a cemetery.

The deaths begin in 1940 and continue through 1949. Original spelling and punctuation have been retained in most cases. Information between {} has been added. Mrs. Olive obviously recorded some of the names and dates from memory, obtained them from obituaries, from tombstones, or from family members, since there is one for 1899 and a few for the 1920's and 1930's. The majority of these are for the 1940's.
