SMITH CEMETERY #4

Location: From Lawrenceburg, go west on Hwy. 64 to West Point Rd., turn on this road and go to the Gandy Church of Christ and turn left. Continue on this road for 2.4 miles, then, turn right just before coming to the Nelson Ford over Shoal Creek. Go to the end of the road at the W. T. Gilmore farm. On the western side of the big pasture, below the house, go through the gate and go on a pasture road for about .3 of a mile and to a second pasture and another gate. Then, walk southwesterly up a hill about a 1/4 mile. Part of the cemetery is cleared, but most of it is overgrown. It covers a large area, possibly 1/2 acre or more. We were able to count 45 unmarked graves. The ruins of the old Smith Iron Mines is located near this cemetery and quite possibly the persons buried here were at one time connected with the mines. The mines were active in the later part of the 1800s. (These directions were written in 1967 and can not verify that they are correct now.)
