There are still 9 of the Lawrence County, Tennessee Pictorial History - Bicentennial Edition books if you wish to purchase a copy. The book is filled with approximately 1,200 mostly old pictures of the county throughout the past 200 years. For more details, click on the link for the book in the below.

The LCGS was founded June 1997 and is a non-profit organization established to collect and preserve the ancestry of Lawrence County families, to stimulate and instruct all persons interested in genealogy, to develop and record historical and vital facts of the people who originated, developed and helped build our great county.  Below you will find a list of board members and officers that you may contact for information.  Also, we have many links to various other websites of particular interest to Lawrence County researchers and in general research. (If you find any broken links, I would appreciate you notifying me at the email address above.)

Our society publishes a quarterly journal titled Lawrence County Heritage consisting of 40 pages filled with various family histories, transcriptions of wills, marriage records, tax records, queries, book reviews, Bible records, pictures, diaries, etc. If you would like to submit articles, pictures or records for the publication, please submit them to Kathy Niedergeses.  Below you will find links to the table of contents for past issues of the journal. Back issues can be ordered by contacting the society through the society.  We will be continuously adding links for our issues up to current date as time permits.  I want to give a special thank you to the members who have prepared a synopsis of our table of contents in the past: Irma Kaslow, Patricia Milnes, Lila Gobbell, and Susan Beeler Anderson; and our current volunteer: Lawrence Niedergeses.

The society has an excess of many of these issues, and has decided to give away a majority of these. Free issues and the prices for the rest are below:

When the Lawrence County Genealogical Society began in September of 1997, extra journals were produced to ensure back issues would be on hand for future members who wished to purchase them. At first, they were stored at the Lawrence County Archives, but after many years finding another space for this became necessary. For several years now, the large quantity of excess quarterly journals have been stored in the basement of our printer in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. We have sold a good number of them over the years, but, due to lack of space and the facility not being climate controlled, the society board members decided it is time to do away with most of our back issues. However, we will keep some of each issue for future members interested in purchasing them. Also, most issues are in the computer and can be printed out as the need arises. You can find the information each issue contains below under Journal Table of Contents. If you are not local and wish to order issues, you will be responsible for the shipping cost. The contact information is below.

If you decide you would like to receive free back issues, please contact the Lawrence County Genealogical Society at lcarchives@lorettotel.net or by phone at 931-762-6338. If there is no answer, please leave a message and I will return your call.

If you wish to pick up the free issues, please contact the society using the information above or the Lawrence County Archives at 931-852-4091 or by email at lawrencecountyarchives@gmail.com. If you wish to pick them up at the archives, you will have to set up a time with Ashley.

If you request issues to be mailed, you will be responsible for the postage. Please contact the society, not the archives, for mailing and be sure to include your town, state and zip code, since the postage fee will depend on weight and where the package is being shipped.

You will notice that we are sold out of several issues. You can still purchase these issues by requesting the archives to make a copy of the pages. Since the archives will be making the copies, we are currently selling them for $3.50 each plus postage, which is half the price normally charged for copies per page for 40 pages at the archives. Or, we can make copies of a particular article for you for 15 cents per page and postage.

Vol. 1, #1 (Fall 1997) through Vol. 21, #4 (Summer 2018) are free.

Vol. 22, #1 (Fall 2018) through current issues and all issues sold out
are still $3.50 per issue.
